Somerset Literature Festival

18/03/2016

We participated in author sessions with Andy Jones, Felic Arena and Jacqueline Harvey.

During the Andy Jones show, we had the best time learning so many things. Andy has released 5 CDs, 12 books and 5 audiotapes through the ABC.  He was so funny and he made some of the children do hilarious things on stage with rhyme, dancing and changing voices to tell a good story.  He told us very factual things but in a funny way! He encouraged many of us to follow our dreams and to do what we always have wanted to do. He writes funny and humorous books for the young and old to read.

Jacqueline Harvey knew she wanted to be an author at a young age. When Jacqueline was a young teenager she won a writing competition and this inspired her to think that maybe, sometime in the future, she might be able to write books. It wasn’t until November 2012, that Jacqueline took the giant step away from a 20 year career in schools as a teacher, Deputy Head of Junior School and most recently, Director of Development, to become a full time writer. She is now one of Australia’s most popular authors.

Felice Arena is an amazing public speaker and encourages all to participate in his show. Felice told the audience that he is really a big kid at heart, and that he likes to speak to children of all ages. Felice is a morning person. As soon as he wakes up, he’s in front of the screen raring to go - that’s when his mind is most fresh and active. Felice has been quoted to say “writing is a discipline, and whilst it’s important to be creative it’s also important to treat the process as work”.

Everyone who went to the Somerset Literature festival has taken so much out of it. It has inspired all of us to do whatever we want to do and to follow all of our dreams. Some of us are even going to write a story.
