Student Leaders visit Parliament House

It was an early start. We were at school at 7:30 a.m. and ready for the long drive to Brisbane with Mr McConnell. By the time we went through security it was 10:15 a.m. and we were finally ready to experience Brisbane Parliament House. Our guide, Peter, took us on a tour through the Old Parliament House including the library with books from 200 years ago! We saw the Red and Green Chambers. In the Green Chamber, we were lucky enough to witness live question time with all Members of Parliament sitting. This included Campbell Newman himself! Later we met up with Michael Hart, (Member for Burleigh).  He showed us his office and many other facilities including the pool, gym, squash court, barbecue area and the amazing views of Southbank.

By the time we had seen all the sights, we were hungry and ready for lunch. Little did we know we were being treated to a three course meal at Strangers’ Dining Room. It was a long lunch and a wonderful end to our day at Brisbane Parliament House. We are sure this memory will stay with us forever.
